Don't place vertical!
Your Xbox One, it could damage your hardware http://uk.gamespot.com/tgs/microsoft-on-xbox-one-vertical-orientation-do-it-at-your-own-risk-6414731/?edition=desktop
while I'm sure some people would have liked a system that could do that. In the end they needed a reliable system. Which is why XBO is so big for cooling. In my opinion it wont be until they do a die shrink that we will see a smaller XBO, that would be able to cool properly. MS can't really afford Xbox 360 initial reliability now.
This time the competition is out at the same time (well a week difference who cares) on 360 people put up with the failures because they had to. I think MS realised they could not rely on that trick again, and rightly so

Re: Don't place vertical!
I never have my console placed vertically and never will anyway. Down to space and the fact that it can damage the hardware if it falls and if it gets knocked slightly with a disk inside spinning then it will get laser burn and a disk that no longer works.
